Harper Government Invests in Improvements to Morden’s Community Infrastructure
1/11/2013

Morden, MB — Today, Candice Bergen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Portage—Lisgar, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for the Morden Elks Lodge under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

“Morden is a community that continues to grow and flourish year by year,” said MP Bergen. “The Morden Elks have made a valuable contribution to the area and I am pleased to see them use the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund to improve recreational areas such as the tennis courts for Morden residents to enjoy”

The Harper Government’s investment of $16,050 will enhance the services provided by the Morden Elks Lodge, by resurfacing their tennis court facility. The tennis courts have been in use by the community for more than 20 years and are the only public courts in Morden. This project will ensure that the courts, used for both tennis and basketball, continue to provide quality recreation for years to come.

“The Morden Elks Lodge is delighted to receive funding from WD under the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund,” said Rick Peers, Past Exalted Ruler. “This investment will allow us to re-asphalt the tennis court facility and create a more useable area for various types of activities.”

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating, small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
